First Hand Research

For research I came across this life support skills book that has actually proven to be a great source of information. This information was credible as it comes from the British Heart Foundation. The layout of this book is suitable for all ages and I found it actually very easy to follow; I have added some images of the pages below...

This book has some many additions that help the reader make sense of the situation , for examples I love the sections of the definitions e.g. What is choking? I also like how the sections are divided into sections which are different colours, this too makes it more enjoyable to read. This book includes numbered steps which again is a useful addition and I think that is something that I want to include in my own app. I think the use of images is helpful to demonstrate how to complete the actions however I am not a fan of the placement and layout of them. The image placement seems more child based, the way they are placed and cropped around, this makes me think that this book is more aimed towards children than an older audience. They are some what suitable for a real book but for an app this layout wouldn’t work so this is something that I could experiment with.

Looking at the typography here it is clear and easy to read and there are certain words and sentences that are highlighted in red font. Some other font colours include black white and blue, I don’t think that multiple colours of fonts would be suitable for an app, I want my app to be accessible and I think that many font colours wouldn’t be the way to go.
